Even though he will no longer be on the track, "Junior" will still have a presence with his Xfinity Series team, JR Motorsports, and will be a part of the NBC broadcast team next year.
Still, it is sad to the son of the "Intimidator" no longer racing.
With his impending retirement, I thought I take a look back at Dale Jr.'s career with a countdown of his greatest wins.
The list includes 10 of Dale Jr's 50 wins in two of the three major series in NASCAR: The Monster Energy Cup Series, where he has 26 career victories, and the Xfinity Series, where he has 24 career victories.
Anyway, here is the list:
10. 1998 Texas(Xfinity Series)
Dale Jr. gets his first career NASCAR win when he passes Joe Nemechek on the final lap of the Coca-Cola 300 at Texas Motor Speedway, the first of 13 wins in his back-to-back Busch Series championship seasons.
Despite suffering damage from a 27-car crash on the fourth lap of the race, Junior comes back to win his 4th straight race at Talladega Superspeedway with a controversial pass of leader Jimmie Johnson with four laps to go as Junior goes below the yellow line, which is out of bounds at Daytona and Talladega.
Four years after his last Cup series win and only win for Hendrick Motorsports, Junior ends a 145-race winless streak as he leads nearly half of the 200-lap race at Michigan, the same track where he won before his four-year drought began.

7. 2001 Dover
In the first race after the 9/11 attacks, Junior leads 193 of the 400 laps, including the final 39, to score the victory at Dover Downs International Speedway in Dover, Delaware.
After the race, Earnhardt does a "Polish Victory Lap" while holding the American flag.
Driving his father's famous Wrangler Jeans paint scheme and number #3, Dale Jr. leads the final 33 laps and holds off all challengers in a green-white-checkered finish to win the Xfinity Series race at Daytona on Independence Day weekend.

5. 2000 All-Star Race
Junior becomes the first rookie to ever win the All-Star race as he charges from sixth place on a restart with eight laps to go to take the lead from Dale Jarrett in Turn 4 of the next-to-last lap.
4. 2000 Texas
In just his 12th career start in the Winston Cup(now Monster Energy Cup)Series, Junior leads 106 of the 334 laps, including the last 53 to grab his first career win in NASCAR's top racing division, just two years after winning his first Busch Series(now Xfinity Series)race at the same track, Texas Motor Speedway.
3. 2014 Daytona 500
Following a nearly six-and-half hour rain delay, Junior proves the 2014 Daytona 500 was worth the wait for his overwhelming fanbase as he leads a race-high 54 laps, including the last 18, to win NASCAR's version of the "Super Bowl".
However, it was not the first time Junior won the Great American Race...
2. 2004 Daytona 500
Six years to the day of his father's only win in the Great American Race, Junior wins the first of two Daytona 500s as he passes Tony Stewart with 20 laps to go and leads the final 20 laps to grab the win.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. climbs out of his car after winning the 2004 Daytona 500. |
In the first race at Daytona since his father was killed in the Daytona 500, Junior provides the sport with one of the most popular victories in NASCAR history, as he wins the Pepsi 400, the race held at Daytona during the 4th of July weekend.
Junior dominates as he leads 116 of the race's 160 laps but has to charge from sixth place on the race's final restart with six laps to go and to jump to the lead in just one lap, then have his teammate, Michael Waltrip, race his way up to 2nd, to help Earnhardt hold off the rest of the field and win the race in a reversal of the 1-2 finish of the Daytona 500 which Waltrip won.
After the checkered flag, Junior does a burnout in the infield and is joined by Waltrip where the two embrace in a hug in front of over 100,000 fans(You can skip to the 1:10 mark to see the race highlights).
